School Year Guided Group Visits 2016 - 2017

Bring your students to the Children's Museum of Manhattan this school year to our hands-on exhibits and art workshops! All theme-based visits conform to New York City Common Core Standards and are individually adapted to each grade level. Choose from the following programs:

Duration: 90 minutes

Cost: $160.00 per class of up to 30 students

Guide Group Visiting Hours: 10:30am - 12pm, 12 - 1:30pm, 2-3:30pm or 4-5:30pm

 

New! Hello from Japan - begins February 2017

Grades Pre-Kindergarten - 5th grade
Students are introduced to Japan and Japanese culture while building an understanding of what it means to be part of a global community. As they walk the streets of Tokyo and visit and Shinto shrine, students learn the importance of respecting diversity.  Schedule »

 

America to Zanzibar: Muslim Cultures Near and Far: You, Me, We

Grades Pre-Kindergarten - 1st grade
Students discover the building blocks of what makes a community as they explore their Muslim neighbors from Harlem to Pakistan in our newest exhibition America to Zanzibar: Muslim Cultures Near and Far. Bartering goods in our sensory marketplace, driving a vibrant Pakistani truck, or traversing the desert on a camel’s back, learners will identify the exciting similarities and differences between themselves and their global neighbors. In the accompanying art workshop, students will analyze expressive and colorful Pakistani shipping trucks and personalize their own paper truck, creating a unique representation of their cultural identity.  Schedule »

America to Zanzibar: Muslim Cultures Near and Far: Global Geometry 

Grades 2nd - 5th grade
Students are transported across the globe as they uncover the beauty and diversity of Muslim arts and culture through architecture and design in our newest exhibition America to Zanzibar: Muslim Cultures Near and Far. Colorful, geometric ornamentation is found on household objects like cloth and ceramics, and embellishes the walls, floors, and arches of important buildings and gathering spaces. As they venture through a Persian-style courtyard, an interactive and immersive Mosque, and an international marketplace, students will investigate complex geometric compositions and relationships between two- and three-dimensional forms. Students will apply their learning during the accompanying art workshop, creating their very own geometric design. Schedule »

America to Zanzibar: Muslim Cultures Near and Far: Air, Land and Sea: Trade and Travel

Grades 6th - 8th grade
Students will explore the ways that culture is transmitted across borders through the lens of ancient trade routes in the Eastern Hemisphere. Young explorers will journey across the Indian Ocean, from Oman to Singapore, in our life-sized dhow boat, learn about the spice trade in our sensory marketplace, and consider important elements in Mosque architecture in our newest exhibition America to Zanzibar: Muslim Cultures Near and FarSchedule »

Adventures with Dora and Diego: Diego’s Rainforest Adventure

Grades Pre-Kindergarten - 1st
Rescue a blue-morpho butterfly, guide sea turtles to the shore, and look for tree frogs following in the footsteps of Diego as he helps different animals in the Adventures with Dora and Diego exhibit. Students also create a kapok tree collage in a science workshop as they learn about the different layers of the rainforest strata. Schedule »
 

Adventures with Dora and Diego: Dora’s Neighborhood

Grades Kindergarten – 1st
Students will explore various jobs and roles and how they contribute to communities. Through an exploration of CMOM's exhibition Adventures with Dora and Diego, students learn about the goods and services neighborhood helpers provide and build an understanding of what it means to be part of a community. Students will then participate in a hands-on workshop to create their own neighborhood destination!

PlayWorks: City Sights and Sounds

Grades Pre-Kindergarten – Kindergarten, Monday thru Wednesday only
Through an exploration of different early learning centers in CMOM's own  PlayWorks™ exhibit, students will compare their own city neighborhoods and build an awareness of their surroundings. Students will build knowledge of the community workers and the tools they require. Through a hands-on workshop, students will create their own city scene!

Dynamic H2O: All About Water (Begins May)

Discover what makes a boat float, how rain forms and why oil and water do not mix through a series of experiments, art projects and explorations in CMOM’s own City Splash exhibit.
