Anime-zing Weekend Festival
Anime is an animation style from Japan made up of colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastic themes, much like the kawaii (meaning cute) graphic style found in CMOM’s Hello from Japan! exhibit. Join CMOM for an Anime-zing weekend full of art and design workshops inspired by the traditions and styles of Japanese anime.

Black History Month Celebration

Makers Making History: A Black History Month Celebration

In this weeklong festival CMOM brings contemporary artists, and performers who look draw inspiration from history. Makers Making History is a celebration of the African American community’s contribution to the arts. Join us as we build a greater appreciation of our past to make pathways for our future.

Kamishibai Weekend: The Art of Storytelling, 10:00am

All ages

Japan has a rich storytelling legacy that has entertained and shared important lessons to generations of Japanese people. Join us at CMOM for a weekend full of activities that explore different forms of storytelling such as puppet performance, woodblock print making and traditional Kamishibai story telling.    

Bunraku Puppets, 10:00am

All ages

Design your own mechanical puppet and work together like traditional Bunraku puppet performers to create your own story!. 

10am-12:45pm 

Movement & Circle Time, 11:30am

4 & younger

Sing, move your body and use your listening ears to hear special stories.

Kamishibai for Kids, 2:00pm

5 & older

Watch as the story unfolds before your eyes in this traditional form of Japanese storytelling, which dates back to the Twelfth Century. Storyteller Dr. Tara McGowan will take you through an exciting tale, and help you create your own story.  

* Due to limited space, this program requires you to sign-up for entry. Sign-up in the lobby one hour before the event.
