ING NYC Marathon Frequently Asked Questions

How do I receive guaranteed entry to the 2013 ING New York City Marathon?
Join Team CMOM and commit to raising $2,500 or more to benefit the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. We are able to provide guaranteed entry in return for your support.

How do I register to become a member of Team CMOM?
To become a member of our team, contact abarnes@cmom.org and we will send you a contract to fill out and sign. Please note, there are only five places on Team CMOM. Your application will be reviewed and successful applicants will be contacted in the order with which they applied.

How do I create my personal fundraising page to collect donations?
CMOM will create a page for you based on the information and images you send us. You will be able to send it to all your friends and acquaintances, allowing them to contribute online.

What happens if I don’t reach the fundraising minimum by the deadline?
The fundraising minimum must be raised by November 1, 2013. If CMOM is not provided with the minimum balance by that date, you will become personally responsible for the remaining balance.

If I drop out of the race, am I still responsible for raising $2,500?
If for any reason, including injury, you are unable to physically participate in the marathon, you will be asked to contribute or continue fundraising until reaching $1,250 in donations. (This covers the fee CMOM is charged by NYRR to participate in the marathon, and associated staffing costs.) After August 31, 2013 you will be responsible for raising the full $2,500 minimum.

Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes, all donations are tax-deductible. CMOM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Does CMOM pay the race entry fee?
No. Race entry fees are not tax deductible—you will pay the fees when you register at the NYRR website. Entry fees fall in the region of $250, with discounts available for NYRR members.

How do I get my friends and family to donate?
We recommend you send an email to all your colleagues, friends and family letting them know you are going to be running at the ING NYC Marathon for Team CMOM. Provide the link to the fundraising page CMOM will set up for you so they can donate directly towards your cause. If someone prefers to write a check, make sure the check is written out to “Children’s Museum of Manhattan” and contains your name in the memo field so we know to whom we should attribute the donation. Mail any checks you receive to Annabel Barnes at Children’s Museum of Manhattan, 212 West 83rd Street, New York, NY 10024. We will add check donations to your personal fundraising website so that all your donors are recognized and counted towards your fundraising goal.

CMOM’s Spring 2012 Benefit was a resounding success.

With 350 friends and supporters gathered together—and over $800,000 raised to support CMOM’s vital community outreach program—we could not have imagined a more inspired and heartfelt celebration of our commitment to families, the arts, health and education.. This outpouring of generosity and excitement also resulted in $66,000 raised that evening to provide FREE access to the Museum's educational exhibits for 6,500 Head Start families. This was a great start towards our goal of raising funds to serve 20,000 Head Start families in 2012.
